1944 Vintage Power and Speed Book published by Floyd Clymer

Nice vintage 1944 Floyd Clymer book entitled "Power and Speed"

From the Foreword:

Primarily intended for the more knowledgeable sections of the younger generation, Power And Speed is on entirely different lines from anything of the kind yet produced. Dealing with the Internal Combustion Engine in its varied spheres of use the contents of this book may safely be accepted as unique.

Let me explain. Temple Press, the publishers, are also the proprietors of a number of well-known specialized journals dealing with motoring (in all its branches), aviation and shipping. Each of these publications is a leader in its own particular field. No other book publisher in the world has access to such an exclusive and authoritative collection of information, and that is why the contents of Power And Speed will be such as can be found nowhere else.

Complete technical accuracy coupled with attractive presentation has been achieved, whilst anything of a "blood and thunder" nature has been deliberately excluded. That kind of stuff, which is often an insult to the intelligence of the average young man, can be acquired in vast quantities for a few pence.

Every chapter of Power and Speed has been carefully prepared by experts who are recognized authorities on each particular subject. All the reading matter has been specially written by the appropriate Editor, Sports Editor, and/or Technical Editor; and in addition there is a number of unusually interesting articles by men who have achieved great things on land, on the water, and in the air. These special articles are not of the usual type of superficial story which can be found in the more popular newspapers and periodicals; in fact they contain much inside information which has never previously been published.

The illustrations are almost entirely the work of our own staff of artists and photographers and are therefore exclusive to Temple Press publications. The mechanical line-drawings of motor vehicle chassis and aeroplanes are without parallel in their absolute accuracy and clarity.

So far as I am aware no one has ever before attempted to concentrate in one volume such a mass of authoritative and interesting information about this fascinating modern development - the Internal Combustion Engine...
